Road work closes 4 streets Monday

Sections of four different Charlotte streets will be closed Monday for the start of construction projects.

The city’s transportation department says the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and The Plaza will close at 9 a.m. Monday and reopen at 4 p.m. Friday, so crews can perform underground water, storm and sanitary sewer work for the Commonwealth and The Plaza Business Corridor Project. Motorists should use Thomas Avenue, Central Avenue, The Plaza, McClintock Road and Saint Julien Street as a detour.

Westcliff Drive in west Charlotte will be closed until 4 p.m. Oct. 17, for work on the Allenbrook Westridge Storm Drainage Project. Motorists will have to use Interurban Avenue, Thriftwood Drive and Marble Street as a detour.

Durham Lane in north Charlotte will be closed until Oct. 22. The road will be closed between Collins and Cross streets for the next week, then between Collins Street and Datha Avenue for two weeks, and between Datha Avenue and Statesville Road for the final week. The closures are part of the Statesville Road Widening Project. Detours will be posted.

Griffith Street in southwest Charlotte will be closed between Youngblood Street and Fairwood Avenue from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Saturday morning. Crews will be doing underground water utility work. Detours will be posted.
