Kannapolis police seek 2 shooting witnesses

KANNAPOLIS -- Police in Kannapolis are hoping to contact two motorists who were near the scene of an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.

A Kannapolis officer shot and seriously wounded Allen Lee Jenkins during a reported altercation in the 1500 block of North Main Street.

Earlier, police had been called to a house in the 700 block of Leazer Street, where they found a woman who had been shot. She was rushed to CMC Northeast with serious injuries.

Police said they identified a suspect and began looking for him. That is when an officer spotted Jenkins, who was the suspect in the woman’s shooting.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure, and the SBI is investigating. Police say two motorists were near the shooting scene on North Main Street, and they would like to speak with them.

Jenkins is in critical but stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The woman, identified as Debra Tucker Dixon, remains in critical condition at CMS Northeast.

The two motorists -- or anyone else with information in the case -- is asked to call Kannapolis police at 704-920-4000, or contact Crime Stoppers at 704-93CRIME.
