One person was seriously hurt in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on East Independence Boulevard in southeast Charlotte.
The wreck happened just before 7 p.m. near Village Lake Drive and the Independence Square shopping center.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the driver of an SUV ran into a guardrail. It took 18 Charlotte firefighters 20 minutes to free someone who was trapped in the vehicle after the crash.
Paramedics said one person suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital.
