Dense fog has moved into parts of the immediate Charlotte area, reducing visbility to near zero in some places.
And perhaps because of the fog, there are numerous wrecks and other problems for motorists at 8:30 a.m. this Thursday morning.
Among the worst fog spots are inbound East Independence Boulevard and Interstate 77 near uptown. Fog also is dense in southeast Mecklenburg County.
Here is a summary of problems at 8:30 a.m.:
-- I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion, part of it caused by an earlier multi-vehicle wreck, is slowing traffic to about 15 or 20 mph from Providence Road to South Boulevard.
-- I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion delays are slowing traffic to 25 mph near Poplar Tent Road and Bruton Smith Boulevard.
-- I-77 southbound, north Mecklenburg ... Typical congestion delays are building. Average speeds are 20 to 25 mph from Davidson down to Huntersville.
-- Sardis Road at Rama Road ... A collision, but only minor delays.
-- Randolph Road near Sharon Amity Road ... A collision with injuries, and there are moderate delays.
-- Runnymede Lane at Barclay Downs Drive ... A collision with minor delays.
-- Sugar Creek Road at Reagan Road ... A collision being cleared; minor delays.
-- North Tryon Street at Mallard Creek Church Road ...A collision is blocking several lanes at 8:30. Moderate delays.
-- I-77 southbound, south Charlotte ... Debris, perhaps large rocks, is reported between Westinghouse Boulevard and Carowinds Boulevard.
-- Sam Furr Road at Northcross Drive, Huntersville ... A wreck is being cleared, with moderate delays on Sam Furr Road.
-- Johnston Road at Marvin Road, Ballantyne ... A collision; only minor delays.
