EMT killed in accident is honored in funeral procession

CHESTERFIELD, S.C. - Fire trucks and ambulances lined a route across Chesterfield County on Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to an EMT worker who was killed in an accident.

Belinda Gale Rivers, 43, died when the ambulance in which she was riding was struck by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 74 in Monroe on Tuesday.

Rivers and the driver of the Sandhills Ambulance had just dropped a patient off at Carolinas Medical Center -- Union just prior to the accident.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Officials in Chesterfield County said vehicles from several fire departments lined the route from Caulder Funeral Home in Chesterfield to the church.

Authorities are still investigating the accident and have not yet filed any charges.
