Your morning traffic update

A few wrecks and building congestion are the big headaches on Charlotte-area roads at 8:20 a.m. this Friday morning.

But traffic in the SouthPark area is snarled because of a police investigation and a separate wreck. Police are investigating the robbery and stabbing of a cab driver near Park Road and Fairview Road.

In addition, there are reports of a traffic collision in the area.

At 8:20 a.m., traffic was snarled on Park and Fairview roads. Motorists should avoid the area for the next 15 to 20 minutes.

Here is a summary of problems at 8:20 a.m.:

-- Park Road at Fairview Road ... Police are investigating the robbery and assault of a cab driver. Heavy delays reported.

-- I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Typical congestion delays are slowing traffic to 20 mph from Carowinds to Tyvola Road.

-- I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion slowing traffic to 15 or 20 mph, from Providence Road to South Boulevard.

-- I-77 southbound, north Mecklenburg ... Congestion slowing traffic to 20 mph, from Lake Norman down to Huntersville.

-- I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion slowing traffic to 20 or 25 mph around Poplar Tent Road and Bruton Smith Boulevard.

-- Albemarle Road inbound ... Normal congestion delays slowing traffic to 15 mph from Harris Boulevard to Sharon Amity Road.
