A Hickory man remained in jail early Friday accused of raping a child nearly four decades ago.
The Hickory Daily Record reports the arrest of 65-year-old Albert Lindsey Turner came as authorities were reviewing another old rape case.
In the other case, Willie Grimes was released from prison this spring after serving 24 years for a 1987 rape he says he didn’t commit. The state Innocence Inquiry Commission has said enough credible evidence of Grimes’ innocence exists and a three-judge panel is expected to meet Monday to help decide whether to overturn Grimes’ conviction.
The new arrest centers on a rape from 1973, and an arrest warrant showed the alleged victim was under the age of 12, the Record reported.
Turner was charged with first-degree rape and was being held Friday morning in the Catawba County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.
