One person was killed Friday afternoon in a wreck on northbound Interstate 85 in northern Rowan County, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The wreck forced troopers to close the northbound lanes for about 30 minutes, and traffic remained snarled for 6 miles at 1:30 p.m.
Troopers say the crash happened shortly after noon, near Exit 79 at Spencer. They say the driver of an SUV apparently lost control of the vehicle and it crashed.
Three men were in the car. One was killed, and the others were hospitalized. The names of the victims have not been released.
Troopers were able to open one lane of northbound traffic shortly before 1 p.m., but motorists should expect long delays or find alternate routes early Friday afternoon.
