Independence ramp to John Belk Fwy. to close

The ramp from westbound Independence Boulevard to the John Belk Freeway will be closed again this weekend so crews can work on a resurfacing project.

The work (and ramp closure) is weather permitting and planned from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. Work is being done by G.A. and F.C. Wagman Inc., of York, Pa. Crews are removing the existing concrete from the bridge deck and replacing it with latex-modified concrete. The ramp also was closed last weekend.

Transportation officials say the project will require the closing of the bridge one other weekend before Dec. 20, and some lane closures are possible at other times.

During the closure this weekend, traffic will be detoured to the Brookshire Freeway and Davidson Street.
