Tyler Blalock slipped on the edge of a creek, struck his head on rocks and fell into the water on Saturday morning, according to an autopsy, which lists the Appalachian State student’s cause of death as “accidental drowning.”

In a statement, school officials said the autopsy results are consistent with the ASU police department’s findings.

Blalock was apparently alone when he fell into the water. His body was discovered by a passerby in Durham Park, which contains a section of Kraut Creek.

The park, which is located by the intersection of Rivers Street and Hardin Street (U.S. 321), is across from ASU’s Holmes Convocation Center, which accommodates conventions, trade shows, concerts and athletic events.

Blalock, a sophomore studying sustainable development, was from Charlotte and graduated from North Mecklenburg High in 2011.
