Traffic problems build across Charlotte

Wet streets seem to be contributing to the larger-than-usual number of traffic problems this Monday morning across the Charlotte region.

Overnight rain, disabled vehicles and collisions are conspiring to cause numerous delays in the area.

The most recent problem is a five-vehicle collision on the ramp from southbound Interstate 77 to the Brookshire Freeway. At 8:45 a.m., the vehicles were on the left shoulder of the ramp, and there were considerable delays.

Rain fell during most of the night, and it’s expected to continue throughout the day. In addition to wet streets, motorists on secondary roads also will deal with a few spots where fallen wet leaves will create slippery conditions.

The summary of problems at 8:45 a.m.:

-- I-77 southbound ramp to Brookshire Freeway.... Five-vehicle collision around 8:30 a.m. Vehicles are on the left side of the ramp. Slowdowns extend about a half-mile.
