Your morning traffic update

Wrecks are being reported across the Charlotte region this Tuesday morning, with wet streets possibly contributing to the problem.

The worst spots at 8 a.m. are inbound East Independence Boulevard, inbound Providence Road and southbound Interstate 77 in Cabarrus County.

A wreck is blocking the right lane of Independence Boulevard near Eastway Drive. At 8 a.m., traffic was snarled all the way back to Idlewild Road.

Inbound Providence Road was closed earlier at Sharon Amity Road because of a wreck, but latest reports indicate the lanes are open again. Regardless, traffic is backed up badly.

And a disabled vehicle on southbound I-77 at Poplar Tent Road is adding to the usual heavy congestion there.

Here are the problem areas at 8 a.m.:

-- Independence Boulevard inbound ... A wreck blocking the right lane near Eastway Drive. Traffic clogged back to Idlewild Road.

-- Providence Road at Sharon Amity Road ... A wreck with injuries closed the inbound lanes of Providence Road. At 8 a.m., inbound traffic was snarled back toward the Fairview-Sardis intersection.

-- I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion causes problems every morning, but the problem is worsened by a disabled vehicle blocking the right lane near Poplar Tent Road. Traffic is stop-and-go from the Concord exits down to I-485. Motorists might want to consider using U.S. 29 as an alternate.

-- I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Normal congestion delays slowing traffic to 15 mph from Providence Road to South Boulevard.

-- I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Typical congestion delays slowing traffic to 10 or 15 mph from Carowinds to Tyvola Road.

-- I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion slowing traffic to 10 or 15 mph from the lake down to Huntersville.

-- Barclay Downs at Runnymede Lane ... An earlier wreck is being cleared; minor delays.

-- Old Statesville Road at Hambright Road ... An earlier wreck being cleared; minor delays.
