A painting purchased by a Concord woman for $10 at a Goodwill was recently auctioned off for nearly $35,000 in New York.
The winning bid at Sothebys New York for Ilya Bolotowskys Vertical Diamonds was $34,375. The owner of the influential Russian artists painting, Beth Feeback, will receive $27,000. Not a bad deal, considering Feeback only paid $10 for it.
Feeback, an artist who specializes in painting cats, actually purchased the large piece at Goodwill for its canvas and planned to paint over it. A friend encouraged her to look up the artists name on the back of the painting and contact an art gallery about its worth.
She told NBC Charlotte in July that the auctioneers expected Vertical Diamonds to fetch between $15-20,000. Feeback said she hoped to use the money to pay down debts and make improvements on her home.
