A Lincoln County man has been accused of raping a 13-year-old he met on the social networking website Facebook.

Robert William Carl Weaver was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with one count of statutory rape by a defendant six years older than the victim.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Weaver met the victim via Facebook sometime in August or September. At some point, he picked her up near her home in Western Lincoln County and brought her to his home, where the alleged rape occurred.

As they worked on the case, investigators determined that Weaver had more than 1,200 Facebook friends, many of whom were teenage girls.

Weaver was released from Lincoln County jail on $9,900 secured bond. He’ll appear before a judge in Lincoln County court on Friday.

According to a search of N.C. court records, Tuesday’s arrest was Weaver’s first. He was previously ticketed for failing to wear a seatbelt and for driving without his license in his possession.
