Two weeks after a 19-year-old felon cut off his ankle bracelet, police said he is back in Mecklenburg jail Tuesday.

Channing Avery Banks of Charlotte had been on the run since Sept. 18 when he cut off his monitor, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. He’d last been seen near his home on Cates Street in uptown.

Banks, who has previously been convicted of breaking and entering and larceny, was placed on electronic monitoring in August as he was released from jail after an arrest on charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods, records show.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Banks on Central Avenue in east Charlotte.

He’s now charged with interfering with an electronic monitoring device. He remained in Mecklenburg jail Tuesday evening.
