A funeral has been scheduled for an Appalachian State student who slipped on a rock, fell in a creek and died in Boone on Saturday.
Tyler Blalocks funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at University City Methodist Church, at 3835 West W.T. Harris Boulevard. Hell be interred at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens following the funeral.
Blalock, a 19-year-old graduate of North Mecklenburg High, slipped on the edge of a creek, struck his head on rocks and fell into Kraut Creek on Saturday morning, according to an autopsy, which lists the Appalachian State students cause of death as accidental drowning.
In a statement, school officials said the autopsy results are consistent with the ASU police departments findings.
Blalock was apparently alone when he fell into the water. His body was discovered by a passer-by in Durham Park, which contains a section of the creek.
The park, which is located by the intersection of Rivers Street and Hardin Street (U.S. 321), is across from ASUs Holmes Convocation Center, which accommodates conventions, trade shows, concerts and athletic events.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages people to make memorial donations to the Appalachian Access Fund, which helps ASU students with a financial need.
