NEWTON -- A 37-year-old Catawba County man has been charged with growing hundreds of marijuana plants in his home, the sheriffs office says.
Justin McAllister, who lives on 16th Street N.E. near Hickory, was arrested Monday, according to the sheriffs office. Deputies say they received a tip and went to check his house. They say marijuana plants were visible from a window.
Authorities say they found more than 500 plants, with a street value of $1.3 million.
McAllister was charged with three felonies -- manufacturing marijuana; possession with intent to sell, manufacture or distribute marijuana; and possession of marijuana. He was jailed under $10,000 bond and will make his first court appearance Monday.
