1 nearly drowns near Whitewater Center

A U.S. National Whitewater Center employee was seriously hurt Wednesday evening in a near-drowning incident in the Catawba River.

Details about the circumstances about the incident weren’t immediately available.

CPR was performed on the victim, and paramedics said he was airlifted from the scene in northwest Charlotte to an area trauma center. His injuries were described as life threatening.

Whitewater Center staff said Wednesday’s incident happened in the Catawba River.

The Whitewater Center, which is located by the river, offers whitewater rafting, kayaking and paddle boarding.
