Arrest made in '96 slaying of police officer

Authorities arrested a man accused of murdering a Jonesville police officer in 1996.

Scott Vincent Sica, 36, was arrested at his home Wednesday in Cape Coral, Florida, according to a press release from the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Sica is accused of shooting and killing Jonesville police Sgt. Gergory Martin during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 77 near Winston-Salem.

Investigators said Martin made a traffic stop on October 6, 1996 on a red Dodge Ram truck before he was shot. The shooter then fled the scene and later stole a commercial van.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has been working in conjunction with the Jonesville, North Carolina Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of investigations and FBI for the last several months in an attempt to close this case.
