The worst of the morning commute has ended, but one traffic headache remains for Charlotte-area commuters Friday morning.
Its construction on Fullwood Lane, which runs between Matthews Township Parkway (N.C. 51) and South Trade Street in Matthews. Fullwood is a popular cut-through, but construction is causing backups that probably will continue through the morning.
Motorists trying to get to the Siskey YMCA area or western Union County from the west and north will have to go through downtown Matthews and get on South Trade Street.
Otherwise, we have these post-morning commute problems:
-- Ballantyne Commons Parkway at John J. Delaney Drive ... A collision is being cleared; minor delays.
-- Pineville-Matthews Road at Carmel Road ... A collision is being cleared. Traffic on the inner (westbound) side of N.C. 51 is very slow in the area.
-- I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion delays are continuing at 9:15 a.m., with average speeds of 20 to 30 mph from Providence Road to N.C. 51.
