Enrollment in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools rose by 3,159 students this school year, a 2.3 percent increase, officials announced today.
CMS said enrollment on Sept. 24, the 20th day of school, was 141,171, up from 138,012 on the 20th day of last school year. CMS also had 2,695 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten programs, bringing total preK-12 enrollment to 143,866.
Enrollment exceeded the school system’s projections by more than 1,000 students, officials said.
“We’re glad to see that people are choosing CMS and our enrollment is increasing,” said Superintendent Heath Morrison. “Now we have 143,866 reasons to succeed.“
