House speaker coming to Charlotte to campaign for Romney

By Tim Funk

House Speaker John Boehner will be in Charlotte on Friday to stump for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The Ohio Republican is scheduled to speak at 4:15 p.m. at the local Romney campaign office at 1329 East Morehead St., according to an email sent out by Romney's campaign.

As the leader of House Republicans, Boehner has worked closely with Romney's running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee.

Boehner's visit is the latest evidence that North Carolina remains a battleground state in the presidential race. Last week, Vice President Joe Biden campaigned in Charlotte and Asheville for the Democratic ticket. Also in recent weeks, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley have been in North Carolina campaigning for the GOP ticket.
