Motorcyclist dies from Charlotte crash injuries

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say one of two motorcyclists injured in a late-September crash in west Charlotte has died.

Police say James Walker, 42, died Saturday afternoon at Carolinas Medical Center. He had been there since the Sept. 29 crash.

According to police, Walker and Ervin Lee Johns were riding their motorcycles outbound on Rozzelles Ferry Road in the early-morning hours of Sept. 29 when one or both of them lost control of their vehicles. Police say the two were speeding.

The motorcycles -- Walker was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson, and Johns was riding a 2003 Suzuki Intruder -- fell on their sides and slid more than 200 feet, throwing the motorcyclists from their vehicles. At the time, police say alcohol, narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found at the crash site.
