Man arrested in Caldwell shooting

LENOIR -- A 28-year-old man has been charged in a weekend shooting in Caldwell County, the sheriff’s office says.

Marshall Franklin III was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held in a Caldwell County Jail, the sheriff’s office says.

Deputies were called shortly before 10:45 p.m. Saturday to a residence in the 1700 block of Rattlesnake Lane, in the Valmead community. Officers found Mark Gentry suffering from a gunshot wound to his right leg. He was hospitalized at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Authorities say an investigation led them to Franklin, and he was arrested Sunday. Investigators have not said what might have led to the shooting.
