Burke deputy accused of drugs-for-sex plan

MORGANTON -- A Burke County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with trying to trade drugs for sexual favors, the sheriff’s office says.

Robert Keith Whisnant, 45, who had been with the sheriff’s office for 18 years, was charged Monday by SBI agents with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance.

It is not clear whether Whisnant is accused of trying to conduct the trade with a jail inmate. The sheriff’s office says more details will be announced later Tuesday.

He was released on $10,000 bond.
