An observant crime victim and quick work by police led to the arrest of two men last week in a break-in at a home in Charlotte’s Chantilly community, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

Police say a man returned home early Thursday to his residence in the 200 block of Wyanoke Avenue and found his front door ajar and several items missing from his home. Among items taken from the house was a distinctive type of toolbox, according to police.

The victim told police he had seen two men walking down nearby East 7th Street, carrying a toolbox similar to the one stolen from his house. Police say officers located the men, who live across the street from the victim.

Investigators say information and evidence linked the two men -- Marcus Shane Humphries, 31, and Sohrab King, 36 -- to the burglary. The two men were charged with breaking and entering with force; larceny; and possession of stolen goods.

Police say a short time later, they recovered property stolen from the victim’s home in the woods behind the suspects’ residence.
