A 19-year-old man has been charged in what Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say was an armed robbery after a traffic collision Saturday in north Charlotte.

Carlos Montrece Massey was arrested Saturday evening and charged in the robbery, which happened around midday in the 4300 block of Old Interstate Road, near Interstate 85.

According to police, a woman said she was leaving a hotel parking lot when another driver struck her car, causing minor damage. The woman said the other driver got out of his car and displayed a handgun, in an attempt to stop the victim from calling police. The gunman then stole cell phones belonging to the driver and a passenger, police say.

Police say they found a suspect later that evening in the 4700 block of North Graham Street, and they say the victim identified him as the gunman from earlier that day.

Massey was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
