WINGATE -- An overnight main break has left the town of Wingate without water, officials say.
Authorities say an 8-inch water line broke in the early-morning hours Thursday on U.S. 74 at Camden Road, at the front of the Wingate University campus. The break has halted water service for most customers in the eastern Union County town.
Officials say a crew has been working on the line since before daybreak. They say it will be mid to late morning before the line is repaired.
There is no word as to how the problem will affect operations at Wingate Elementary School and Wingate University.
