Iredell County authorities say they arrest of two men earlier this month has put a dent in a Charlotte-to-Iredell drug operation that has ties to a Mexican drug cartel.
The sheriff’s office says Jeremy Scott Becker, 23, of Mooresville, and Rico Davarsha Flemming, 30, of Charlotte, were arrested following an undercover operation.
Agents with the sheriff’s office say they learned that Becker and Flemming were carrying large quantities of heroin from Charlotte into southern Iredell County to sell. Sheriff’ Phil Redmond said the two men have ties to a drug cartel that is believed to be supplying most of the heroin seized.
Redmond said an undercover officer made contact with the two men and met them individually. After allegedly buying heroin from each man, agents made the arrests.
“Detectives from the Narcotics Division are continuing to follow up on the information they have received, and they expect additional heroin seizures from that organization,” Redmond said.
Becker was charged with two counts of trafficking heroin; selling and delivering heroin; possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin; and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances. He was jailed under $50,000 bond.
Flemming was charged with selling and delivering heroin; possession with intent to sell heroin; and maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for controlled substances. He was jailed under $30,000 bond. Deputies say Flemming has an extensive criminal record, including previous drug arrests.
“The capture of these two individuals, as well as the other recent arrests made by the Narcotics Division, has greatly disrupted the distribution of heroin in Iredell County,” Redmond said.
He said additional arrests are likely.
