Former activist Hayden to speak in Charlotte

Tom Hayden, the longtime California-based political activist, will speak in Charlotte Saturday night as part of The Light Factory’s Luminaries Lecture Series.

Hayden and photographer Duane Hall will talk about their experiences at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Hayden, who was active in Students for a Democratic Society, was a leader of the protests during what was officially called “a police riot.”

He and Hall will speak at 7 p.m. at UNC Charlotte’s Center City Building, 320 E. 9th St. The event is free for students and members of The Light Factory and $5 for non-members. Jim Morrill
