NEWTON -- Two teens have been missing since they left a party early Saturday and left for Myrtle Beach, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
The missing men are seniors at Bandys High School and identified as Ray Pierce, 17, and Jake Ziegler, 18.
Authorities say the two left sometime around 1:30 a.m. Saturday from a party near Sherrills Ford. They told friends they planned to drive to Myrtle Beach, then return later Saturday.
A friend received a text message about 2:45 a.m. Saturday from Ziegler’s phone, and investigators say that message bounced off a cell tower in Rock Hill. The two young men have not been heard from since. Their parents contacted police in Catawba County and Myrtle Beach on Saturday.
Calls to their cell phones have been going directly to voice mail, authorities say.
They were driving in Ziegler’s car -- a green 2006 Pontiac G6, with N.C. license tags BBD-8844.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, 828-465-8301.
