Charlotte’s “Bachelorette” star, Emily Maynard, and her fiancé, Jef Holm, told People magazine they have ended their engagement.

The announcement comes after weeks of speculation that the ABC reality show couple had split.

Maynard, who lives in Charlotte with her 7-year-old daughter, Ricki, chose Holm earlier this year at the conclusion of “The Bachelorette,” which was partly filmed in the Queen City.

"As you know, at first I wasn’t sure that I should even be The Bachelorette, but I am a hopeless romantic and I do believe in the show,” Maynard said in a statement to the magazine. “I have no regrets because I did find love and shared an incredible journey with a really special person – and you know what, we tried our best because the love between us was so real.”

Maynard had previously been a contestant on season 15 of “The Bachelor,” which ended with Brad Womack proposing to her. But Womack and Maynard split in 2011.

She didn’t explain what exactly led to the break-up with Holm but told the magazine, "I have nothing but respect and love for Jef and his family, but ultimately we are just at different points in our lives.”

Holm, who the magazine said had moved to Charlotte last month, said he hopes to remain friends with Maynard “forever.”

“Everyone wants a salacious story to break, but the truth is we are just two people who fell in love and tried our hardest to make it work,” he said in a statement to People. “I will always love her.”
