Promising Pages becomes passion for youth

Promising Pages has become a passion for Allie Halter, so much so that she collected more than 4,100 books during the summer and now is partnering with the National Honor Society in leading a book drive at her school, Myers Park.

The Charlotte-based nonprofit gathers new and gently used books for children with few or no books at home, and holds “magic book parties.”

“To watch a child’s eyes flutter as they touch the magic book and imagine their wildest dreams makes everything so worthwhile,” says Allie, a senior who also helped lead a clothing and stocking drive for Nicaragua last year. “I put all of my efforts into Promising Pages because I am passionate about the work they are doing in the lives of beautiful children....It does not require a mission trip to a faraway location to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Promising Pages estimates more than 60,000 children grow up without books in the greater Charlotte area. “Allie is an incredible girl doing phenomenal things,” says Kristina Cruise, the organization’s founder. “She is an inspiration to me.”
