Panthers put Onatolu on IR with torn triceps

Linebacker’s injury worse than thought; CB Ron Parker activated

Carolina Panthers linebacker Kenny Onatolu was moved to the injured reserve Tuesday after tearing his triceps.

Rivera believed Onatolu tore it during the Seattle game, but after the bye week it was shown that the injury was worse than originally thought.

Cornerback Ron Parker moved up from the practice squad to the active roster again. He’ll mainly be a special teams player to fill the void Onatolu leaves.

Linebacker Jerry Franklin was signed to the Panthers’ practice squad Tuesday and joined the team at practice on Wednesday. Most recently with the Denver Broncos during training camp, Franklin had just gotten back from working out at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, when he got the call from his agent.

“It was crazy. I was nervous and I don’t know why,” said Franklin about practice Wednesday. “I got going and got in the groove of things. I hadn’t hit anybody in a little while so it felt good.”

The Panthers also made a practice squad move earlier in the week by cutting guard Bryant Browning and adding tackle Ray Dominguz, who was most recently with the Packers.

“He’s a big body – big physical football player, plays tackle,” Rivera said. “It’s a guy who we wanted to start evaluating a couple of the positions that we wanted to look at.”
