A man working at a construction site had to be rescued Thursday morning when he apparently fell into an enclosed area in southeast Charlotte, authorities say.
The emergency call came shortly before 11 a.m. to the 6400 block of Donnegal Farm Road. That is in a neighborhood off Weddington Road, near Interstate 485, south of Matthews.
Crews at the scene said the man fell about 6 to 8 feet, apparently while working at the site of a house under construction. The man appeared to land in a walled-off area. Crews lifted him out on a stretcher that was hoisted by a Charlotte fire ladder truck.
Kristin Young, a spokeswoman for Medic, said the injured employee was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Charlotte fire Capt. Mark Basnight said it took a crew of 27 firefighters nearly 45 minutes to free and rescue the man.
