Rowan County deputy charged with stalking is fired, jailed

A Rowan County sheriff's deputy was fired and jailed after he was charged with misdemeanor stalking.

The China Grove Police Department issued a warrant against Brian Michael Long, 33. Authorities said he placed a tracking device on his former girlfriend's car. Investigators told NBC Charlotte that Long worked in the Rowan County Detention Center.

He was arrested Saturday shortly before midnight by Kannapolis police during a traffic stop and was being held in the Cabarrus County Detention Center without bail. He was expected to appear in court Monday.

In a news release, the Sheriff's Office said, "The Rowan County Sheriff's Office mailed a letter to Brian Long's last known address, on Friday, informing him that his services were no longer needed as an employee and requesting that all issued equipment be returned to the Sheriff's Office."
