As told by Christian:

Lindsay and I were living in Charlotte, and I received a call from one of my superiors about interviewing for a better job in Wilmington. I started my daily routine, elated, and another call came into the office. Diamond’s Direct told me the ring had arrived two weeks early, and that I could pick it up that day!

The day just kept getting better. Forget Murphy’s Law – it was the week of my birthday and everything started falling into place.

I took my lunch break, broke down my wheelchair and drove as fast as I could to the store. I made the final payment, smiled to the salesperson and told them, “Let’s get engaged tonight.”

Lindsay’s parents were ready for the call. I phoned Lindsay’s father and let him know I was planning to propose that night, and we coordinated a meeting at a local restaurant that evening.

We went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday – or at least, Lindsay thought that’s all we were celebrating. I asked the manager of the restaurant to bring the ring out with dessert. Lindsay should have known something was amiss since I very rarely order dessert. “But it’s my birthday,” I insisted.

“Hey, did you notice a car that looked just like my dad’s outside?” she asked.

I froze. I lied. It was all I could do to keep from spoiling the surprise. I ordered bananas Foster and caught the manager’s eye… the plan was in motion.

I told Lindsay how much I loved her and why she meant more to me than anything I have ever known or will know. Shaking with nervousness, I asked for Lindsay’s hand in marriage. She said yes, and I phoned her parents, who were waiting outside to come in and celebrate with us.

I told Lindsay that we needed to be in Wilmington the very next morning. It is a three-hour drive and we had to drive that very night. We finished our dessert, filled with excitement, packed some bags and drove to the coast.

The next day, I got the job, and the previous night, I got the girl.

I have been through a lot of crazy stuff in my young life, but that was the BEST kind of crazy. It was the best two days of my entire life.

Lindsay and Christian were married on August 25, 2012.
