Police: Woman left baby near pile of trash

Police in Mount Holly say a 23-year-old mother left her baby next to a pile of trash by the road Sunday evening and drove off, WBTV.com is reporting.

Katelynne Devine, of Mount Holly, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, said Mount Holly Interim Police Chief David James.

James told WBTV that the woman had shown up at her father's house with the baby, but the father declined to take care of the child that evening. He said the woman then allegedly left the child beside a pile of trash near the road.
