Sierra Club makes endorsements

This year’s endorsements by the Central Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club are notable for two Democrats it didn’t endorse and two Republicans it did.

The group endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Democratic congressional candidates in the 9th and 12tth Districts, Democrats for lieutenant governor, attorney general and treasurer, Democrats in eight legislative races and for three at-large races for the Mecklenburg County board.

Not endorsed: Democratic gubernatorial candidate Walter Dalton and 8th District Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell.

The only two Republicans endorsed: state Sen. Fletcher Hartsell of Cabarrus County and Rep. Ruth Samuelson of Charlotte.

The group also endorsed Sam Ervin IV in the non-partisan Supreme Court race. Jim Morrill
