Two men have been charged with beating and robbing their mother Tuesday, Albemarle police say.
Police say they have charged Joe Henry Furr, 25, and his brother Tom Lee Furr, 23, with two counts of first-degree burglary, assault on a handicapped person, kidnapping and communicating threats.
It started Tuesday evening, police say, when they were called to an apartment in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Drive. Officers say a 56-year-old woman at the residence said her two sons broke into the apartment, stole food items from her cabinets, and took $13 from her table.
The woman said the men then kicked her in the face and locked her in the bathroom. Afterwards, the mother said, the men ransacked the house, breaking a chair and throwing clothes around, apparently in an attempt to find money.
Police obtained warrants on the two, and an officer on patrol spotted the men Thursday evening on Glenn Street.
Authorities say the officer called for help, and the two men began running when they saw the police. They were caught a short time later.
The two are being held under $50,000 bond each and will have an initial court appearance Nov. 7 in Stanly County.
