Covenant Day Middle School students raised more than $3,500 for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Christmas Program during their annual Penny Wars. The program provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children in the Charlotte area.

Students will spend a service day volunteering for the CMPD Christmas program by purchasing and wrapping the gifts Dec. 6.

Covenant Day students have been raising money for local nonprofits through Penny Wars for five years. The program is a friendly competition between homerooms. Students earn points by placing pennies or paper money in their homeroom’s jar. They deduct other homerooms’ points by placing all other forms of change in other homerooms’ jars.
