LINCOLNTON -- A sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday after responding to an argument near Iron Station, the sheriff’s office says.
Deputy Travis Williams suffered a head wound after being struck several times, authorities say.
Williams was called about 3:15 p.m. to deal with a disturbance in the 700 block of Trinity Lane. Authorities say two people were involved in a dispute over property.
Williams grabbed an arm of one man, 42-year-old Robert Hayes Hunter, but deputies say Hunter got his other arm free and struck Williams several times. Williams called for help, and Deputy Justin Link arrived. He found Williams injured but holding Hunter at gunpoint.
Authorities say Hunter also fought with Link but eventually was subdued. He was charged with assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer; injury to personal property; and two counts of resisting, delaying, and obstructing a law enforcement officer. He is jailed under $20,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office says Williams suffered a fractured nose, facial cuts, and swelling under an eye. He was treated at CMC-Lincoln.
