If you have young children or grandchildren, you are likely planning a trip to the pumpkin patch this month. For most of us this becomes an annual tradition that includes petting zoos, hayrides and food tastings – as well as the obvious: searching for the perfect pumpkin.
Combine these activities with costume-clad kids and you have a recipe for fabulous photos. Help to preserve those photos in the creation of a handmade fall scrapbook.
An album that is easy to make features a back cover that wraps around the front cover and is secured with self-adhesive magnet strips. The front cover and inside pages are the same size, are punched with a standard-hole punch and bound with colored, plastic bands or metal binder rings. The cover is embellished with pumpkins created by punching out three circles, trimming the middle one and layering them together.
The inside pages can be filled with photos quickly, if you first establish a formula. In my scrapbook, I combined a wide black band with a narrow, checkered strip whose position was determined by the photos. Vertical photos look best with the bands at the top and horizontal photos look great with the bands on the sides. I also reduced the size of some of the photos in order to allow room to add paper panels for journaling.
Halloween is mostly about costumes and candy. However, gutting and carving a pumpkin is almost as good and if you toast the seeds and bake a pumpkin pie, your kids may enjoy that even more.
