10 charged with DWI at Charlotte checkpoint

Night 2 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police’s crackdown on drunk drivers netted 10 DWI arrests at a four-hour checkpoint in northwest Charlotte, authorities say.

It was part of the statewide Halloween Booze It and Lose It campaign, aimed at dealing with the problem of people who attend Halloween parties, drink, and then get behind the wheel.

The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday in the 8100 block of Brookshire Boulevard.

Additional checkpoints are likely in the coming nights. A similar checkpoint was conducted Thursday night on Providence Road.

Police say they issued these citations and made these arrests:

DWI -- 10

Driving with license revoked -- 17

No operators license -- 16

No insurance -- 3

Open container of alcohol -- 2

Other charges and citations -- 16
