House fire displaces family

Investigators are working to determine the cause of a Saturday afternoon house fire that has temporarily displaced a Charlotte family.

The family was away when fire broke out at the one-story home at 3413 Statesville Avenue, and no one was injured. But the smoke and flames left behind about $50,000 worth of damage, the Charlotte Fire Department estimated.

A passing motorist alerted authorities to the fire shortly after 3 p.m. The 27 firefighters who responded had the flames under control within 38 minutes, the fire department said.
