Originally from England, Sarah Ryberg has lived in Charlotte for the last 12 years and is a graduate of UNC Charlotte. After two whirlwind weddings - one in Charlotte and another in her homeland - Sarah is settling into married life and learning what it takes to be a Mrs. You can reach Sarah at sarahmryberg@yahoo.com

It’s hard to believe time has gone by so fast, but we’ve been living in the apartment for six months now! While I knew I’d never be the model of a true homemaker, I did think I’d have more of a routine down by now. It is funny how often I’ll choose laying around over cooking dinner, despite how much I love to cook. Although I’m disappointed in my lack of homemaking skills, I love life in our apartment.

Now that it’s getting colder, coming home to our own place has only become more comforting. It’s been wonderful to come home, snuggle under a blanket on the couch, and watch TV together. It’s so relaxing after a stressful day at work and it just reminds me how great it is to have our own home to unwind in.

Even the rooms are starting to look more like our own. There is still a lot of decorating left to do though. I know we won’t be here permanently, but unless circumstances change for us in the next nine months, we plan on staying here at least another year. It’s the kitchen and the bathroom that have me sold – I’m completely in love with both! I know Robert loves having his own game room, too.

We also have a really spacious bedroom and that’s one of the many rooms I want to redecorate. While the rest of our apartment is loaded with stuff, the bedroom looks a little empty. The bathrooms are the same way, and while I’m not sure what I can do to make them feel more like ours yet, I know I’ve invested a lot of time on Pinterest looking for ideas.

There have been a few changes that I’m really excited about though. As you can see in the pictures above, I’ve decorated my desk area, our entryway, and we’ve finally put up our wedding pictures. I’ve even tried to start on our empty bathroom space. We’re going for an Australian/Outback feel and I love the burnt orange colours.

It’s still a work in progress, but it feels more like our place than it did six months ago. I can’t wait to start decorating for the holidays either. My family is coming over for Thanksgiving and I’ve already picked out some of the recipes, including coconut sweet potatoes (recipe will be sure to come later)! Then we’ll get to put up our tree and decorate for the first Christmas in our own place. I may be a little early, but I say bring on the holiday festivities!
