An off duty police officer stopped a robbery in progress earlier this week.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, an off-duty officer observed two masked suspects inside a laundry mat located on Albemarle Road Tuesday evening.

As the off-duty officer entered the business to investigate, the suspects ran out the back door. The officer was able to chase down and apprehended both suspects a short time later, according to police.

Police said one of the suspects was armed with a knife at the time of the arrest. Both Jovontay Lewis and Xavier Davis were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and resisting public officer.

Anyone with additional information to this case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 704-334-1600.
