Rowan deputies search for suspicious man

Rowan County authorities are searching for a man who may have tried to abduct a 14-year-old after she got off the school bus.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 100 block of Ted Lane in Salisbury shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a suspicious person in the area. A teenage girl told deputies that a man driving a small white pick-up truck approached her sometime after she’d gotten off the school bus.

According to deputies, the teen said the man “told her he wanted to tell her something.” But when she approached the truck, the girl told police that the man opened the truck’s passenger door and tried to get her inside the vehicle, according to a news release. The teen told deputies she shut the truck’s door then walked home.

Deputies said the girl gave a limited description of the man and his truck. The girl told police the man was “older and skinny, with white hair and wearing glasses.” The girl told police that after the encounter, the man turned right from Ted Lane onto Old Concord Road. But deputies and N.C. Highway Patrol troopers who searched the area couldn’t find the suspect.

Anyone who may have information about the case is asked to call the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700.
