Expert gardening tips

The staff at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will present “Perspectives on Horticulture,” from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. Garden staff members have close to 90 years combined experience and, after opening remarks, will invite questions from the audience. Free with garden admission. Details: www.dsbg.org.

Giving green

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling will host a free workshop on holiday waste reduction, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 10 at Hal Marshall Services Center, 700 N. Tryon St. Participants will learn how to create gifts from repurposed items and can take home a booklet on “green” gift giving and holiday waste reduction tips. Free.
