Wingate

Flu shot clinic: Wingate will sponsor a community-wide flu-shot clinic on Nov. 8, 9-11 a.m., at the Wingate Community Center.

Shots will be $30. Patients are required to bring their insurance cards and wear a short-sleeved shirt. Community Health Services of Union County will file only for Medicare Part B recipients. All others will require payment and be given a receipt for reimbursement.

Women who are pregnant must provide approval from their doctor. Proceeds will help support CHSUC’s free diabetic clinic. Call CHSUC at 704-296-0909 for information.

Marshville

Veterans Day service: Marshville will hold a Veterans Day service on Nov. 10 at noon at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The event, hosted by American Legion Post 440, will feature speeches from retired servicemen and veterans from the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marines. Forest Hills High School student Tyishia Starnes will sing the national anthem. Call 704-624-2515 for information.

Waxhaw

Veterans Day festival: The town and American Legion Post 208 will host its Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Military Wall of Honor.

This year’s event will feature displays of uniforms from different time periods, along with exposure to little-known military traditions. Those in attendance will hear the story of a local veteran, as well as an active duty Army solider serving in Afghanistan. People also will be able to purchase bricks for the Wall of Honor to honor those who have served or are currently serving in the military. The event is free to the public.
